The History of South Shore Equipment
SSE started as South Shore Lawn Mower from my garage on a credit card in 1975. From there a service station, lawn mower repair shop, and towing service were started. Shortly thereafter, the service station and towing business was sold, and we moved the lawn mower repair to downtown Kailua in 1977 where we remained for about 15 years.
In 1982, Shindaiwa began in the North American market. South Shore Equipment took on distribution in Hawaii, Guam, and the Northern Marianas.
The business moved to Kalihi which was closer to town, the airport and shipping lanes. We then added Toro, Lawn-Boy, Exmark and Dingo to our inventory.
In 2004 we purchased another building in Waipahu, about 30 miles west of Honolulu and moved one more time adding Tru-Cut to our lineup.
In 2010 we partnered with Maruyama Power Equipment after Echo acquired Shindaiwa. Maruyama U.S., Inc. is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of professional outdoor power equipment, sprayers and agricultural equipment and we’re fortunate to have joined forces with them.
